Towards a safe and pleasant working atmosphere

Workplace bullying demands attention

'How can we sustainably raise our level of collaboration?' That is the central question in groups under pressure. No one wants more pressure. Therefore, people point at the other. But if nobody moves, the situation only gets worse.

In such groups, 'workplace bullying' occurs. In workplace bullying, a group chooses one victim, the scapegoat, to take the pressure off the group. There is a diffuse (not very visible) fight that harms everyone, not just the victim. The whole team, the whole organisation suffers. Shame, moreover, keeps the door locked. The whole team becomes trapped in the negative behaviour, from which no escape seems possible.

Yet relief is close at hand once a team faces the situation and feels the urgency to address it. On this and underlying pages, you will find advice for that purpose. Outside help may sometimes be needed. A team coach can help initiate the desired change.

Tackling bullying at work is working on damage control

Bullying at work leads to harm to everyone. Resilience gets lost. Giving each other more space is necessary. Then the wound can be taken care of.
With team coaching, you engage professionals and speed up the process of recovery.

Directors addressing an undesirable atmosphere

Tackling bullying at work

At Team4Teams, we find that leaders step over a threshold once they address bullying behaviour.
By doing nothing, the undesirable atmosphere will become more firmly entrenched in an organisation and lead to increasing emotional, intangible and financial damage. Everyone can see that. You will have to talk about it. How much more damage will it take?

Talking about it works better once you have a positive goal in mind, know where you want to go. A short process of team coaching speeds up the process, in which everyone learns to see the benefits of positively strengthening cooperation.

Team training the positive approach

Keys to success

That you put a positive work atmosphere on the agenda is a first key that helps start the process of working together in a stalled team. But that is not enough.

A second condition is that you do it together. A manager starts the process and introduces a team coach. This team coach will start by reinforcing team members' desire for a healthy work situation, or looking for it. Strange eyes compel and call out the best in each employee. From that desire, the team itself then decides to get to work. Self-steering can take place as soon as positive behaviour is rewarded and negative behaviour is made open to discussion. In the end, you need everyone!

The third Key is that you need to persevere. The team, board and management may also be challenged and need perseverance. After all, this is a culture change.

Tackling bullying at work - starlings

Sometimes it is necessary to blow off steam first because there is too much history in the way. At the same time, team coaches focus on the here and now and the future. You could call that the fourth key to success.

Bullying at work

Focus not on the problems but on the goal

With a team coach from Team4Teams, you choose a practical, experiential learning-based approach. The team coach supports employees and managers in the here and now to bring the whole team along.

The process takes time, but the positive effect works directly into the capillaries of the organisation. Together, you transform an undesirable atmosphere into a positive culture in which employees excel and in which - not unimportantly - employees are more creative, flexible and collaborative in improving business results.
