The TOM team supports teams in team development
Compusense introduces a good test for team development in the Netherlands.
Green and Partners, together with Team4Teams team coaches, supports follow-up.
Towards a perfectly functioning team, where working together gives energy.
The Team Development Meter (TOM)
The Team Development Meter (TOM) was developed and validated in the United States. In the Dutch language area, the TOM test is provided by Compusense. Compusense provides the tests and makes the results available in a report.
The TOM test has four focus areas:
- How cohesive is the team?
- How is the communication going?
- Is there clarity on roles and tasks?
- Are there clear goals and sufficient resources?
The result
The results of a TOM test completed - per team or company - are discussed by a member of the TOM team. This can be an organisational consultant or management coach from Green and Partners or a team coach from Team4Teams.
The TOM test reveals where a team is in its development. Without cohesion no good communication, without good communication no clarity on roles and tasks, and without all three no clear picture of goals and resources! There is sequentiality in team development.
A plan
If required, the TOM team makes a plan for further team development. In a team that is already functioning well, further team growth is central. In newly formed teams (after a reorganisation), attention to team cooperation is essential. For teams in dire straits, the TOM team offers support to clear the air.
In a well-cooperating team, any change is child's play
Attention to cooperation in and between teams is essential for, for example, the proper functioning of medical care in a hospital or healthcare facility. Less hassle, more attention and job satisfaction and more efficiency are the result. And less staff turnover.
There are several options for a practical follow-up to the TOM test:
Put into practice
Team4Teams team coaches provide team training and team coaching. With the Scale of Cooperation as a guiding tool, the team goes about its own development. A manager participates and guides the growth process together with the team coach. Additional personal coaching is available for team members who experience barriers.
Good care is teamwork. The TOM-team coach gets down to practical work. The aim is to achieve a motivated, complete, well-tuned and stable team. This can be done with different forms of work:
- Team building allows team members to get to know each other better, provides relaxation and better coordination.
- Communicating with style ensures that team members understand each other better, communicate better and align their communication style with that of their colleagues. It softens relationships and encourages mutual coaching.
- Giving and receiving feedback strengthens a team's ability to learn.
To measure is to know
After an agreed period, usually two years, the TOM test is repeated. Where is the team now, how far along in its development? Are follow-up steps desired?
