Communication styles course
In the communication styles course, we start from the idea that every person has a preference for a certain communication style. Thus, there are four preferred styles, usually indicated by a colour:
- Red decides (directing) easily. Results matter.
One can - when results are at risk - also be coercive. Regularly perceived by others then as dictation. - Yellow likes to try (motivationally), an opportunity or innovative idea in mind.
One can also be volatile at a bad time. The end sometimes justifies the means. - For greenery (caring), the human scale applies, people strive for stability.
Under pressure, Green tends to talk well. Sometimes perceived by others as soft-hearted. - Blue likes to think (inquisitively) first, going into details and facts.
One may react distrustfully if the pressure becomes too high. If the pressure stays too high for a long time, one can also choose to avoid it by reacting cynically.
People its In doing so, not a communication style, 'you are red', but one used with good reason a preferred behavioural style. In a well-cooperating team, all style preferences are needed, they complement each other. During the course, you will explore your preferences together in the team collaboration setting. In an online questionnaire, which you fill in individually in advance, you indicate your own preference and we also ask you to indicate the preference of your colleagues at a good collaboration moment. You will naturally get into a conversation about this during the course.
Teams experience a course with your own team as an important moment. You reward your employees with it, as the level of good cooperation increases. It enables colleagues to further align their communication. It helps you turn a team into a top team in process steps.
When is a course communication styles a good choice?
- In situations where little time per day can be freed up for training.
- If online training is preferred, for example because people work from home or in different offices (outside the Netherlands). Allowing employees to still experience the training together.
- In situations where budgets are limited, a course is cost-effective while not sacrificing quality.
There are more options. Then check out one of the four related programmes below:
- Communication styles workshop (1 half-day session)
- Communication styles clinic (6 hours)
- Communication styles training (2 day parts)
- Masterclass in communication styles (4 day parts)
Are you expecting a disqualification in your team about taking a course on communication in your team: 'it won't help anyway'? If so, we recommend you first spend a day Team building with reflection to follow. This is the first step in the Team Training Cycle. We then work first - in a positive and experiential learning-based way - on the willingness to work intensively together and learn from each other for life.
This online version includes an online questionnaire that participants complete individually online in advance. They do so for themselves and, with a collaborative situation in mind, also for their colleagues. Each participant thus receives a preferred style that the participant has filled in himself and a result of how colleagues see the participant functioning in a collaborative situation. The result of the questionnaire is shared only with the individual participant. He or she can of course share the result with colleagues. The trainers have access to a summary of the results to prepare the communication styles course. The course is practical, there are many moments to share experiences and cases are also part of the course.
During a live meeting, the team is challenged to work together. This can also be done online if required. About this collaboration, the team naturally gets into a conversation. We then distinguish between direct participants and indirect participants. Are colleagues who first want to think about a new situation sufficiently involved? Have suggestions been heard? Has a brainstorm been created in which thoughts and ideas are linked, in order to put 'the puzzle' together step by step? What about leadership? Has anyone stepped up to take the lead? Has his or her leadership been supported? How did the team handle mistakes? Were mistakes 'played on the man' or did the team act task-focused? Enough talking points, the communication styles all come into their own.
