Training communication styles with sheep herding
In the training on communication styles with sheep, the practical working form is already tailored: the participants combine communication styles with sheep herding. The starting point is that each person has a preference for a specific way of communicating. One is not a communication style, but one uses a behavioural style. Thus, there are four preferred styles. How will the team later use these preferred styles to lead a flock of sheep to herd sheep together to the desired spot? Which communication style will have which role?
- Colleagues with Red preference decide (directing) easily. Results matter.
One can also, if results are compromised, take coercive action. Sometimes others experience it as a diktat. - Employees with a Yellow preferred style tend to experiment (motivationally), with an opportunity or innovative idea in their sights.
One can also be impulsive in an adverse situation. For Yellow, the end can sometimes justify the means. - For people with a green communication preference style, the human touch is important, seeking stability.
Under pressure, Green tends to talk well. Sometimes others see them as soft-hearted healers. - Colleagues with a Blue style preference choose to think (inquisitively) first, after which it is all about details and facts.
When the pressure is too high, one may react with distrust. If the pressure remains too high for an extended period, Blue may also choose to withdraw.
In every communication styles training with Team4Teams, we combine content with a practical work format. In it, participants learn how communication styles work in practice in this team. In this training, the working form is already fixed: sheep are waiting for the participants and by working well together, you will experience that each communication style becomes important in it. Who takes which role, if herding sheep becomes the task? An insight into the power of diverse and positive cooperation will emerge.
A communication styles training course, both with your own team and herding sheep, is a valuable experience. The team writes history together.
